Ukesh’s Venture - Hamaro Adhikar

Ukesh took up the cause of streamlining the way Gram Sabha was perceived by the people in his village. He saw the apathy and distrust towards it and decided to change the way things were, revive the trust and make it work for the development of his village. He started by making the villagers aware of the importance of the Gram Sabha, highlighting its value and the need to be a part of it by conducting a play on Gram Sabha. In 8 months he and his team with the help of the Gram Sabha were able to provide electricity to a nearby village, help tribal farmers, get employment for people in the village and started work to build a school which is in progress. His work has led to a lot of improvement in the village. The villagers now register their farms; the process of registration of birth and death is understood and implemented by them. Even though most of them are illiterate they have become aware of their rights and are also confident of approaching the administration on various issues. His dream is to spread awareness in the illiterate tribes. He wants them to progress and take initiatives on their own. He wants to see them self-sufficient and independent. Ukesh’s most memorable moment, “When I had gone to the collector for the issue of forest, I was leading 25 people. All of them were praising me and I felt proud to lead them.”
