Mohini, a 9th standard student saw the ill effects of addiction on the family and the community at large in her neighbourhood of Kanjurmarg in suburban Mumbai. This young, quiet yet resilient teenager decided to start  Anand (joy) to help her community members free themselves from  addiction and substance abuse. Through her Venture, Mohini, holds meetings once a month, to raise awareness by having discussions, inviting speakers and showing films on the topic. There are regular follow-ups on each person’s progress as well. Anand, had a modest beginning with around 10 people attending the initial meetings but gradually the idea gathered support and now there are around 30 to 50 men and women above the age of 12 present. Mohini’s Venture has gained further momentum as she joined hands with Mukti Sadan, which works on de-addiction, and organised an informative picnic to keep motivating and encouraging the members to continue to be clean.
