Meenakumari’s Venture - Garibi Shikshan

It is encouraging and inspiring to see young Meena taking up the cause of education of the poor and underprivileged in her village Pervad, in Vyara Tapi District, in rural Gujarat.  Teaching Gujarati, English, drama, singing and with the help of various playful activities she has ensured that the children study and make good use of their time. Due to her efforts the children are far more involved in their school work, attend classes regularly faring much better in their studies. She is eager to get the marginalized tribal community into main stream society by helping improve the standard of education in their community. She wants to see them confident and self-reliant. Meena today is referred to as “teacher” by the children of her village. “It gives me immense joy to see them address me with so much respect” says the 12^th standard student earnestly. Not too long ago her project seemed a distant dream but training and resource input from Youth Venture and support from her family and the Sarpanch helped Meena turn it into reality. An able and confident person today her enthusiasm and zeal has seen tremendous progress amongst the children and is sure to reach greater heights.
