Manisha’s Venture: Deesha

It is inspiring to see that a girl as young as Manisha realised the need to be a catalyst in helping those who have perhaps lost their direction. Through Deesha (direction), she encourages school drop outs to go back to school and helps older drop outs to choose a suitable career, also facilitating appropriate vocational training. Manisha’s team conducted a community survey, interviewing young people who are studying and those who have dropped out to explore the reasons for dropping out of school and the impact it has on the community. They found that often these young people left school in order to work but that left them with limited career opportunities due to lack of vocational training. While she and her team were keen to get them to speak of the challenges they face to remain in school, they also encouraged and motivated them to re-enroll. Deesha, has so far, sent 15 girls for beauty parlour training and 15 boys to a vocational training camp in Belapur. She conducts a monthly meeting and regular follow-up sessions. She hopes that through her Venture, young people will get educated, become independent and chalk out a plan for their future career. Her dream is to see them use their education to pursue careers that interest them.
