Arti Naik - CHANGEMAKER
Posted on 16. Jun, 2009 by Aditi in Education, Our Changemakers
After conducting a survey of her community, Aarti realised that it was the families of most young girls who were responsible for one of the most major problems they faced. A lot of parents force their daughters to drop out of school to help with household work. Arti reached out to girls who dropped out of school and their parents. She did this by informing them about opportunities available to them and the importance of education in their lives. Through Sakhi, Aarti, a junior college student, conducts a weekly class aimed at boosting confidence levels of drop outs. She plans to conduct the classes regularly and already has 18 girls enrolled in her class. In order to encourage more young girls to be a part of Sakhi, she organises picnics and competitions. Her aim is access to education for all girls.
